Ronaldo given five-match ban

Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo has been given a five-match ban after he pushed the referee for sending him off the win over Barcelona on Sunday.

The 32-year-old was shown a second yellow card, two minutes after putting Real Madrid back in front which he received first yellow for taking off his shirt to celebrate his goal.

The Portugal forward stands to miss the second leg of the Supercopa, as well as La Liga fixtures with Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad.

Madrid are however to appeal the sanction and hope to at least reduce the ban to four games by having Ronaldo’s second caution wiped out.

Both Madrid and Ronaldo have also been fined, while Ronaldo was facing a maximum 12-game ban for the shove on the official.
